Machining isn't bad; in fact it is exceptional, and has been around for centuries. Machining simply doesn't hold up to the same level of detail, organic shapes, geometrical independence, nor does it hold up to the traditional time of production. Although 3D printing is just now beginning to be implemented on a wide scale, it is already starting to take over other forms of manufacturing.
